This is one of the best alpine treks one can do in Georgia. In 7 days, you will traverse the wild Egrisi mountains and visit some of the most beautiful mountain lakes of Georgia. And the only other people you will meet will be a bunch of shepherds and a few other adventurous souls.
Unlike other, more "cultural" treks which have villages and guesthouses, this is quite rough camping trip. Don´t expect any porters waking you up with a cup of hot chocolate in the morning, you will have to carry all your stuff. But if you don´t mind difficulty and limited comfort, you may experience an unforgettable adventure.

Departure from Tbilisi in the morning. After picking up remaining participants in Kutaisi and a lunch break, we will head north towards Mukhuri. There we will switch to the Soviet Ural truck which will drive us deeper into the mountains. We will cover about 30km on rough forest roads, slowly climbing towards our destination beneath the Natipuru mountain. Finally, we make a short walk to the Natipuru hut where the first panorama of Egrisi mountains open in front of us. Camping by the hut.
Before noon, we will traverse the eastern slopes of Egrisi mountains. Then starts the arduous climb to the Okhoje pass (2750m). From the pass, we will descend to Okhoje lake, beautiful alpine lake from which one can, if the weather is good, even see Elbrus. Camping by the lake.
Relatively easy, but very scenic day. We will climb from the Okhoje lake, traverse a small valley and climb again towards eastern Toba pass (2900). From the pass, one can admire the scenery behind as well as the rugged Chitaghvala mountain. Once we start descending, also the greater Tobavarchkhili lake into the view. Many consider it to be the most beautiful lake in Georgia and now you will see why :) Camping by the lake.
This day, we will leave our tents by the lake and explore the vicinity of the lake with backpacks. The main reason is to give you an opportunity to stay 2 nights by the lake so you have much better change for the best views even if the weather is not optimal. That´s not saying that the places you will see and not wonderful. You will descend to the east to see the magnificent Toba waterfall. In case of interest, you can descend even deeper into the Magana gorge and visit local shepherds.
Time to move on. We will cross the northern Toba pass and start the descent to the Khobistskali valley. We will pass two smaller lakes - Didi Ghele and Kailashi. Not far behind the Kailashi lake, we will leave out backpacks and make a short, but difficult detour over the ridge to the east to the Tsakatskali lake. After the return, we will descend to the bottom of the valley. Camping in the valley.
We will continue the traverse of remote Khobistskali valley and before the lunch start climbing to the Natakhtish-Dudi pass (2650m). If the weather is good, we will be able to admire the impressive panorama of the Greater Caucasus. Then comes steep descent to the Khaishura valley. Once we get out of the wildest part of the valley, we will break a camp close to the another shepherds hut.
We will walk a few more miles before getting picked up by a jeep (somewhere around the Zemo Vedi, depending on the road condition). This will allow us to skip a whole day of walking on a jeep road at the bottom of the valley. Once we get out of the Khaishura valley, we will embark on a return trip to Kutaisi or Tbilisi.
